This unit centres on both a conceptual and practical approach to International Accounting Issues with emphasis on international standard setting and compliance as viewed by regulators and private sector preparers of accounts. You will gain a practical understanding of these issues in an international context through the overseas visitation program which forms an integral part of this unit.

Learning outcomes
- compare and contrast accounting for specific chosen sectors from both a management and financial accounting perspective
- develop a practical understanding and appreciation of current and emerging accounting aspects for the chosen sectors
- evaluate academic and professional papers in relation to the emerging accounting topics in the chosen sectors
- apply critical thinking, problem solving and presentation skills in individual and/or group activities.
Workload
Minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 144 hours per semester typically comprising a mixture of scheduled learning activities and independent study. Independent study may include associated readings, assessment and preparation for scheduled activities. You are expected to complete all pre-class activities prior to your scheduled class, and post-class activities should be completed after your scheduled class. Learning activities may include a combination of teacher directed, peer directed and online engagement activities.
