This unit introduces the concepts surrounding issues of cultural heritage in the context of archaeology and museum practice of the ancient Mediterranean world and Australia. We will explore legal and ethical frameworks, the roles of museums, archaeological collaboration with local communities, and the protection of heritage from looting and theft. Guest speakers from a variety of professional and academic contexts including museums, contract archaeology, and government agencies will present case studies to demonstrate cultural heritage management principles in practice. The unit will raise awareness of the challenges and responsibilities of engaging with cultural heritage as researchers and practitioners.

Workload
