The unit introduces you to public, private and not for profit institutions at international, national and local levels and how they impact upon the governance of communities in a range of international settings. The roles, relationships and networks of state and non-state institutions, and their influence on public policy, will be examined through the prism of international indicators and benchmarks of 'good' and 'bad' governance. The political, economic and regulatory dimensions of governance will be explored utilising contemporary issues in public policy.

Learning outcomes
- Analyse and communicate concepts of governance and their application to issues affecting states, international regions and the global community;
- Evaluate relationships between the public sector, the private sector and civil society and how these can be utilised to foster good governance outcomes;
- Create and develop governance strategies that reflect leadership capacity in cross-cultural competence, effective team engagement and ethical values.
Workload
Minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 144 hours per semester typically comprising a mixture of scheduled learning activities and independent study. Scheduled activities may include a combination of teacher directed learning, peer directed learning and online engagement.
