In this unit you will underpin your interest in practice-based research with focused training in research design, methods and modes of representation. You will explore the key concepts and processes involved in practice-based research and examine a variety of methodologies and modes for representing research outcomes. You will focus on the process of practice-based research from design through communicating outcomes, and develop skills in integrating creative practice and writing. You will design a detailed proposal for your own practice-based research topic before embarking on the research component.

Learning outcomes
- critically analyse key concepts and processes in practice-based research;
- critically evaluate and select from a range of practice-based research methods and modes for communicating research findings;
- apply ethical principles in practice-based research projects;
- initiate and design an original practice-based research project or component of a research project.
Workload
Minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 288 hours per semester typically comprising a mixture of scheduled learning activities and independent study. A unit requires on average three/four hours of scheduled activities per week. Scheduled activities may include a combination of teacher directed learning, peer directed learning and online engagement.
