This unit explores trends, theory and practice in the sustainable development and management of cultural and special events product. Unit content examines the identification and interpretation of cultural phenomena, institutions, places and landscapes as tourism attractions and the design of strategic special events in sustainable destination planning. You will engage with living examples of cultural and events tourism product through local field work and industry engagement.

Learning outcomes
- Work collaboratively in teams to identify problems and design appropriate responses to cultural and events management challenges across different national contexts;
- Apply critical thinking approaches to current challenges in sustainable management of cultural and events products, and design appropriate solutions;
- Critically analyse and evaluate case studies of cultural and events product using relevant theories, models and frameworks;
- Communicate ideas in a range of academic and professional formats
Workload
Minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 144 hours per semester typically comprising a mixture of scheduled learning activities and independent study. A unit requires on average three/four hours of scheduled activities per week. Scheduled activities may include a combination of teacher directed learning, peer directed learning and online engagement.
