This unit explores the emergence of a global political economy and the consequences of an increasingly interdependent world. You will be introduced to the key theoretical approaches and debates in international political economy, and the major developments in 20th and 21st century global political economy. You will also critically examine the key issues emerging from a globalising political economy, ranging from the globalisation of production to the emergence of new powers from the Global South, and reflect on the future trajectories of international political economy in the era of global uncertainty and change.

- Explain the principal themes and theories in international political economy;
- Discuss the major developments in the international political economy since World War II, with emphasis upon the impact of economic interdependence and globalization;
- Critically analyse the key issues facing the global political economy;
- Design and manage a focused research project;
- Collaborate effectively with peers in group learning tasks.
