This unit explores and analyses audience engagement in contemporary digital and networked environments. You will employ key research methods to evaluate diverse communication environments and consider their implications for audience participation and engagement. Drawing on this analysis, you will learn to design distinct communication environments and critically evaluate the effectiveness of particular strategies and technologies in engaging, persuading and mobilising their desired audiences or publics in purposeful ways, as well as the ethical concerns that these practices may raise.

- identify and apply distinct research methods that critically evaluate audience engagement;
- design innovative communication environments that effectively achieve desired audience engagement goals;
- critically analyse moderation approaches for ethically maintaining and managing a safe digital community;
- communicate research findings in a range of formats.
