This unit examines major political, economic and cultural trends shaping the media industries. Looking in detail at the growth and evolution of the media industries, this unit considers key theories and debates relating to media production, ownership, regulation, and business models. You explore case studies relating to media and communications industries from around the globe, which may include film, television, journalism, advertising, social media and streaming industries.

- Critically analyse global media companies and industries, including issues arising from media concentration, convergence and globalisation;
- Research the political, economic and regulatory contexts for media organisation/s, and identify potential issues for stakeholders;
- Collaborate effectively in teams to conduct research and produce media content;
- Communicate research findings and insights in a clear, concise, accurate and engaging way using written, verbal and media elements.
