Translators and language professionals in dynamic digital landscapes and are increasingly required to do more than translate texts. Translators work in varied roles within translation and localisation processes, including project managers, editors, revisers, strategists, localisers and terminologists. In this unit, you will explore translation project management covering the pre-translation, translation and post-translation stages, with a focus on collaborative translation workflows utilising cloud-based crowdsourcing and volunteer translation. This unit will require you to apply project management skills and principles to working in teams on an industry-facing collaborative translation activity.

Learning outcomes
- identify and articulate key theoretical and practical elements of the translation project management workflows;
- apply effective project management and collaborative skills to the planning and implementation of a translation project involving a team of translators;
- collaborate with team members to analyse and solve translation challenges, ensure consistency, and achieve the objectives of the client/end-users of the translations utilising appropriate procedures for quality control;
- discuss issues of copyright, privacy and ethics in collaborative translation environments;
- reflect on the pros and cons of various technological tools when conducting collaborative translation.
Workload
Minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 144 hours per semester typically comprising a mixture of scheduled learning activities and independent study. Scheduled activities may include a combination of teacher directed learning, peer directed learning and online engagement.
