Elective unit of the Master in Interpreting and Translation Studies (MITS). It addresses 21st century methodologies for research in literary translation studies, concentrating on debates around migration, identity and cultural translation. There is a focus on the research field of creative translation practice and developing research literacy within this area. Topics covered under literary translation will also include modes of discourse, medium and genre.

Learning outcomes
- Independently prepare for a research or translation project in Translation Studies;
- Apply advanced methodological principles to literary translation research;
- Discuss key turns in 21st century translation studies, with a focus on literary translation;
- Conceptualise inductive and deductive approaches related to the theory and practice of literary translation studies.
Workload
Minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 144 hours per semester typically comprising a mixture of scheduled learning activities and independent study. A unit requires on average three/four hours of scheduled activities per week.
