This unit will train interpreting students in the skills of long consecutive interpreting and simultaneous interpreting of seen and unseen speeches. You will build on your existing, well-developed skills in dialogue, consecutive and simultaneous interpreting, and in sight translation. You will work in simulated conference interpreting settings in a relevant thematic area and will be familiarised with the research literature relevant to this setting.

Learning outcomes
- Locate content-specific information relevant to the preparation and analysis of speeches according to specialist areas;
- Utilise booth techniques and team interaction skills in interpretation;
- Utilise sight interpretation skills to interpret text;
- provide a fluent, accurate, effective and consecutive interpretation of a complex speech of up to 10 minutes into the target language;
- Provide a fluent, accurate, effective and simultaneous interpretation of a complex speech of up to 15 minutes into the target language;
- Apply theories and concepts of Interpreting Studies in conference settings.
Workload
Minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 288 hours per semester typically comprising a mixture of scheduled learning activities and independent study. Scheduled activities may include a combination of teacher directed learning, peer directed learning and online engagement.
