This unit introduces concepts and techniques for the representation of architectural ideas in two and three dimensions including drawing, model making and computer aided drafting (CAD). The fundamental technical and compositional skills developed in this unit will be applied and further developed through studio projects across both the bachelors and masters degree. You will work through a series of project based assessment tasks which introduce new technical skills while building confidence to test and evaluate the success of techniques to explore and communicate design ideas.

Learning outcomes
- Recognise and understand the language and conventions of both 2D and 3D architectural representation;
- Apply contemporary digital and analogue tools to communicate design ideas, and forms and atmospheres;
- Select and integrate appropriate representational techniques to achieve desired communications outcomes;
- Practice and understand professional and ethical methods for acknowledging the use of existing knowledge, intellectual property and cultural material;
- Develop skills for self-guided problem solving of technical challenges, including iterative revision based on feedback;
- Practice diverse methods for effective and respectful communication and collaboration with peers and tutors within an academic setting.
