In this unit, you will engage with current issues in public policy relating to climate governance, systems sustainability and green economies. In exploring the critical concepts, principles, and practices necessary for achieving a sustainable and green future, you will examine the interconnections between environmental, social, and governance dimensions, and gain a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities in developing sustainable and green economies. We will discuss issues such as climate governance, energy transition, sustainability frameworks and standards, greenwashing and carbon markets, green and circular economies, and ESG SME Banking to highlight the scope and complexity of challenges facing communities. Learning in this unit will support you to think critically about policy responses to climate governance, sustainability, and the green economy in the public, private and non-profit sectors.

Learning outcomes
- critically reflect on principles, frameworks and issues of sustainability and green economy and their relevance to public policy;
- apply theoretical lenses to examine the role of policy tools, instruments, and approaches in implementing sustainability and green economy initiatives;
- assess the effectiveness of sustainability and green economy policies using analytical and critical thinking skills;
- effectively collaborate and communicate in an interdisciplinary context for policy development and management purposes.
Workload
Minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 144 hours per semester typically comprising a mixture of scheduled learning activities and independent study. A unit requires on average three/four hours of scheduled activities per week. Scheduled activities may include a combination of teacher directed learning, peer directed learning and online engagement.
