This unit is a capstone for postgraduate programs under the Faculty of Arts at Monash Indonesia that provides you with the opportunity to design and complete an independent applied research project. Through active blended learning—including workshops, consultations, and structured independent work—you develop core research capabilities such as conceptualisation, literature synthesis, methodological design, analysis, and argumentative writing. The unit culminates in a substantial research report that demonstrates advanced academic and professional research skills.

Learning outcomes
- formulate a coherent research question and develop an appropriate conceptual and methodological framework to investigate it;
- critically analyse and synthesise relevant scholarly literature to situate the research within existing knowledge;
- apply suitable theoretical perspectives to interpret empirical data and findings;
- analyse and communicate research findings and limitations effectively.
Workload
Minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 288 hours per semester typically comprising a mixture of scheduled learning activities and independent study. A unit requires on average three/four hours of scheduled activities per week. Scheduled activities may include a combination of teacher directed learning, peer directed learning and online engagement.
