The unit investigates how the law and public policy should respond to contemporary advances in biomedical technologies. The unit focuses on core topics in bioethics to explore the implications of the concepts of justice, discrimination and responsibility for how access to and uses of biomedical technologies should be regulated. Topics discussed may include: reproductive technologies; organ transplantation; genetic testing; advances in neurosciences; and artificial intelligence in healthcare.

Learning outcomes
- discuss key ethical, policy and legal issues raised by recent advances in medicine and biotechnology;
- identify and evaluate the implications of the concepts of justice, discrimination, autonomy, and responsibility in debates in bioethics;
- apply research, writing and reasoning skills to develop and communicate your own informed judgements about these ethical issues.
