Last checked: 23 Aug 2026 UTCOverview
In this unit, you will be introduced to the key concepts, theories, and approaches in the study of gender. You will examine the impact of gender in a range of global and real-world contexts, and consider how gender intersects with other categories such as race, class, and sexuality. By engaging with a variety of case studies in the media, popular culture, and everyday life, you will learn to analyse the constructed nature of gendered identities. You will also challenge your own assumptions about gender, relate concepts to your lived experience, and build an awareness of the social and cultural worlds you inhabit through an ethical and intersectional gendered lens.
