Overview

This practical, performance-based unit develops your abilities to make and theorise performance. The unit asks the question: How do the intertwined activities of theory and practice work together to advance both theatre theory and practice? You will learn further theories of theatre and performance and then integrate those theories in practical work. You will learn various areas of theatre and performance production, providing intermediate level skills creative design (lighting, sound, costume and set design and stage management) and will undertake focused training in performing and directing/dramaturgy. These skills will be incorporated in advanced self-initiated performance work in creative teams. You will further tools and techniques for working in collaborative teams, project and production management, and for documenting and evaluating your own work and that of others. As well as practical projects, you will undertake further readings, writing, presentation and performance documentation projects to demonstrate and reflect your furthered knowledge of your specialisation and the practical integration of the theories of theatre and performance.
