Overview

In this unit, you will explore spatial composition techniques and apply them to create spatialised sound design environments. You will learn to communicate concepts relating to sound design and spatialisation, developing the vocabulary and frameworks needed to discuss these specialised areas. You will work with peers to develop spatialised sound designs for performance contexts and learn to critically analyse existing compositions, examining how other artists employ sound design and spatial concepts in their work. By the end of the unit, you will have developed skills in spatial audio production, sound design, collaborative creative practice, and critical analysis of spatialised works.

Learning outcomes

  1. identify and apply spatial composition techniques;
  2. devise sound design environments for recorded media;
  3. communicate concepts relating to sound design and spatialisation;
  4. collaborate on the development and performance of spatialised sound designs for performance contexts;
  5. critique compositions with regard to sound design and spatial concepts.

Workload

Minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 144 hours per semester typically comprising a mixture of scheduled learning activities and independent study. Scheduled activities may include a combination of teacher directed learning, peer directed learning and online engagement.
