The unit combines a study of the history and formal structures of 'the Musical' with practical tuition and training in writing for Musical Theatre. Learning outcomes
- Discuss the conventions and traditions of twentieth-century musical theatre;
- Demonstrate familiarity with the distinctive methodological issues involved in the study of the form, and of the languages appropriate to their articulation and analysis;
- Communicate thorough knowledge of key works and developments in the field;
- Apply skills in the formal structures and writing of musical theatre;
- Collaborate in a team throughout a creative process from inception to execution;
- Articulate critical analyses in systematic written argument, and in clear and confident oral presentations.
