Last checked: 23 Aug 2026 UTC

Overview

The unit develops Indonesian linguistic and cultural proficiency through a focus on media, written genres and performative styles in which Indonesians give expression to issues of social concern. You will engage with the emotive and rhetorical dimensions of Indonesian language and culture in four areas: advocacy through cultural genres; first-person narrating by victims of social injustice; public languages of morality and decency, and; poetry. You will develop awareness of social problems in contemporary Indonesia. The ‘Knowing Indonesia Through Research’ requires research into a specific social problem, in which the student seek and draw upon Indonesian language materials.
