Overview

This unit focuses on contemporary philosophy of mind and cognition. It will explore consciousness, thought, perception and the self. We address questions like: Can we measure consciousness? What is the relation between consciousness and intelligence? What is the difference between dreaming and being awake? Are thought and perception distinct? Is there a real self? How can the senses tell us about the world? What kinds of processes in the brain can explain the structure of cognition and conscious experience?

  3. Answer philosophical questions about mind and cognition using philosophical and empirical texts
  4. Apply philosophical discussions about consciousness and cognition to human behaviour in general
  5. Communicate philosophical arguments orally and in writing
