In this unit, you will revisit and expand on your knowledge of media and communications developed in Level 1 and 2 units. You will be supported to engage more deeply in research, developing a specialised understanding of a key contemporary challenge, debate or development within the field of media and communications. You will design and execute an in-depth research project on a contemporary topic or debate of your choice.

Learning outcomes
- critically review scholarly literature on a contemporary challenge, debate or development within the field of media and communications;
- apply prior knowledge of media and communications theories and methods to the study of a contemporary media-related challenge, debate or development;
- undertake advanced analysis of a contemporary media-related phenomenon;
- effectively connect scholarly literature from media and communications to matters of current public concern and/or interest.
Workload
Minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 144 hours per semester typically comprising a mixture of scheduled learning activities and independent study. Scheduled activities may include a combination of teacher directed learning, peer directed learning and online engagement.
