This unit will provide you with advanced training in the norms, methods, key debates, and scholarly conventions of the humanities. You will have the opportunity to elect one of three streams: philosophy, history, or archaeology and ancient history. In the philosophy stream, you will engage with problems in philosophy; the specific philosophical problems you engage with will vary from year to year. In the history stream, you will focus on approaches and methodologies in gender, Indigenous, oral, political, social, and cultural history, as well as the history of science and medicine. In the archaeology and ancient history stream, you will focus on advanced theory and method for study of the ancient world. Topics that may be covered include aspects of cultural heritage and ethical practice in archaeology and ancient history.

Learning outcomes
- identify and evaluate methodologies appropriate to philosophy, historical studies, Indigenous cultures and histories, or archaeology and ancient history;
- critically analyse theoretical challenges in philosophy, historical studies, Indigenous cultures and histories, or archaeology and ancient history;
- critically evaluate and participate in the scholarly debates, conventions and contests in the field of philosophy, history, Indigenous cultures and histories, or archaeology and ancient history;
- apply sophisticated communication and research skills to produce written and oral presentations in the field of philosophy, history, Indigenous cultures and histories, or archaeology and ancient history.
