You will learn the fundamentals of design and analysis of experiments in a business research context. You will understand and review experiments presented in research papers in accounting, management, or marketing and related fields. You will be exposed to the scientific rationale for experimentation, including hypothesis formulation and testing, and how it relates to various types of design. You will learn how to design, conduct, analyse, and present experiments as part of research projects intended for publication.

Learning outcomes
- understand the role of experiments in the larger context of research
- evaluate the connection between research questions and appropriate experimental methodologies
- formulate and test research hypotheses through rigourous experimental designs
- analyse different experimental designs and how to interpret and evaluate results
- write and present an experimental research project, following the relevant stylistic conventions.
Workload
Minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 144 hours per semester typically comprising a mixture of scheduled learning activities and independent study. Independent study may include associated readings, assessment and preparation for scheduled activities. You are expected to complete all pre-class activities prior to your scheduled class, and post-class activities should be completed after your scheduled class. Learning activities may include a combination of teacher directed, peer directed and online engagement activities.
