This unit provides an introduction to accounting and finance terminology, concepts and techniques for leading in organisations. Taking a users’ perspective this unit will focus on the interpretation of financial statements, basic financial and non-financial analysis, working capital management, cost and performance measurement, budgeting, and time value of money. The unit will be set in both the local and global context to ensure an understanding of decision making and value creation across diverse business environment.

Learning outcomes
- develop an understanding of the nature and roles accounting and finance play in leading organisations
- apply financial and management accounting principles in the interpretation of financial statements
- explore the process of value management in a local and global business context
- measure and interpret financial and non-financial information for leading organisation in value creation
- demonstrate the development of judgement skills, problem solving, critical thinking and analysis.
Workload
Minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 144 hours per semester typically comprising a mixture of scheduled learning activities and independent study. Independent study may include associated readings, assessment and preparation for scheduled activities. You are expected to complete all pre-class activities prior to your scheduled class, and post-class activities should be completed after your scheduled class. Learning activities may include a combination of teacher directed, peer directed and online engagement activities.
