This unit discusses the international aspects of financial management of multinational corporations (MNCs). Given their global operations, MNCs need to interact with the foreign exchange markets and other global financial markets which will be introduced in this unit. Topics covered include multinational companies and globalisation; foreign exchange markets; the parity conditions; currency derivatives; forex exposure and the management of transaction exposure; foreign direct investment and country risk; the fundamentals of capital budgeting; international capital budgeting and exchange rate effects; cost of capital and the capital structure for multinational companies; financing international trade; international cash management; and the contemporary trends in international finance.

Learning outcomes
- examine the international financial environment to identify the challenges faced by the multinational corporations(MNCs) in making investment decisions
- analyse foreign exchange market mechanisms and explain how markets can be used to hedge foreign currency transaction exposure
- apply capital budgeting techniques using financial software to assist in MNCs financial analysis
- develop effective strategies by examining the current global market outlook to overcome the challenges faced by MNCs.
Workload
Minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 144 hours per semester typically comprising a mixture of scheduled learning activities and independent study. Independent study may include associated readings, assessment and preparation for scheduled activities. You are expected to complete all pre-class activities prior to your scheduled class, and post-class activities should be completed after your scheduled class. Learning activities may include a combination of teacher directed, peer directed and online engagement activities.
