Cyber Law provides you with knowledge on privacy and intellectual property, electronic contracting, non-repudiation, fair information practices, and other legal and policy measures related to cyber breaches. This unit explores a broad variety of national and international laws that may impact the information technology professionals. It focuses largely on the legal and regulatory impacts of digital technologies and platforms, and on the intended and unexpected effects of regulating digital ecosystems.

Learning outcomes
- apply the fundamental principles of information technology law to hypothetical fact situations through analogising and distinguishing
- develop skills for comparatively analysing the existing laws and policies relating to new or emerging technologies
- analyse the relevant legal rules to cyberspace in order to form a view as to likely legal options and outcomes
- evaluate the national and global regulation and governance of information technology.
Workload
Minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 144 hours per semester typically comprising a mixture of scheduled learning activities and independent study. Independent study may include associated readings, assessment and preparation for scheduled activities. You are expected to complete all pre-class activities prior to your scheduled class, and post-class activities should be completed after your scheduled class. Learning activities may include a combination of teacher directed, peer directed and online engagement activities.
