Overview

This unit introduces you to the legal risks and responsibilities faced by business enterprises arising from regulation and compliance obligations associated with global environmental and sustainability challenges. It focuses on developing vocational skills required by businesses transitioning to more sustainable business models.

Learning outcomes

  1. demonstrate understanding of the legal risks, compliance and social responsibility obligations faced by business enterprises arising from global environmental and sustainability challenges
  2. identify and utilise a range of common regulatory frameworks for addressing the environmental, sustainability and social responsibilities of business at international, national and local levels
  3. participate in individual and team-based analysis of case studies exploring the role of various government and non-government actors facing environmental and sustainability challenges.

Workload

Minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 144 hours per semester typically comprising a mixture of scheduled learning activities and independent study. Independent study may include associated readings, assessment and preparation for scheduled activities. You are expected to complete all pre-class activities prior to your scheduled class, and post-class activities should be completed after your scheduled class. Learning activities may include a combination of teacher directed, peer directed and online engagement activities.
