Learning outcomes

  1. Design road geometry with due consideration to horizontal and vertical alignment, cross-section profile, earthworks and cost implications.
  2. Assess different components of a road project, within the context of a safe systems approach to design, based on economic, social and environmental considerations.
  3. Design flexible and rigid road pavements giving consideration to economic, social and environmental factors.
  4. Communicate professional decisions to specialist and/or non-specialist audiences.

Workload

The minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 144 hours per semester typically comprising a mixture of 3-6 hours of scheduled learning activities and 6-9 hours of independent study per week.
