In this unit, you will learn how to formulate compelling economic questions and effectively select, organize, and apply appropriate data and analytical methods. You will develop critical thinking skills, enabling you to evaluate suitable data sources and determine what questions can be answered with available information. Additionally, you will enhance your ability to visually communicate findings clearly and effectively. Through hands-on practical exercises, you will strengthen your understanding of empirical study design and gain practical skills essential for completing research projects at the Honours or Masters level, and throughout your career in economics, finance, or policy analysis.

- manage the data sourcing and handling requirements for empirical projects
- ask and address critical questions about empirical research in economics
- effectively and creatively communicate empirical findings.
Workload
Minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 144 hours per semester typically comprising a mixture of scheduled learning activities and independent study. Independent study may include associated readings, assessment and preparation for scheduled activities. You are expected to complete all pre-class activities prior to your scheduled class, and post-class activities should be completed after your scheduled class. Learning activities may include a combination of teacher directed, peer directed and online engagement activities.
