This unit equips you with economic concepts, analytical tools, and strategic thinking necessary for effective decision-making in business and management. You will apply economic concepts to analyse production, costs, and other managerial decisions across different market structures. The unit will help you understand various forms of market competition and introduce you to strategic behaviour and risk analysis in the market for informed managerial decision-making process.

Learning outcomes
- utilise economic models of business behaviour and markets to describe key characteristics of market structures and explain various outcomes, including pricing, output levels, business performance, and profitability
- through a case study approach, develop the ability to evaluate and synthesize market characteristics, outcomes, and managerial decisions using supporting evidence. This process fosters their creative and analytical skills
- gather economic information, analyse it critically, and summarize key findings in a clear and structured manner, strengthening research, writing, and presentation skills.
Workload
Minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 144 hours per semester typically comprising a mixture of scheduled learning activities and independent study. Independent study may include associated readings, assessment and preparation for scheduled activities. You are expected to complete all pre-class activities prior to your scheduled class, and post-class activities should be completed after your scheduled class. Learning activities may include a combination of teacher directed, peer directed and online engagement activities.
