This unit will highlight topics and concepts of microeconomics and macroeconomics. Microeconomics will cover: scarcity; economic choice; demand and supply analyses; market efficiency; consumer behaviour and elasticity; the theory of the firm; factors and costs of production; profit maximisation; types of market and competition. Macroeconomics will cover: aggregate demand and supply; unemployment and inflation; the money market; the government budget balance; balance of payments; fiscal and monetary policies; the foreign exchange market and exchange rate policy.

Learning outcomes
- have a basic understanding of the methodology and principles of economics
- have a basic understanding of microeconomics and macroeconomics
- present arguments and make decisions in economic environment.
Workload
Minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 144 hours per semester typically comprising a mixture of scheduled learning activities and independent study. Independent study may include associated readings, assessment and preparation for scheduled activities. You are expected to complete all pre-class activities prior to your scheduled class, and post-class activities should be completed after your scheduled class. Learning activities may include a combination of teacher directed, peer directed and online engagement activities.
