An introduction to the study of economics from a macroeconomic perspective including the following areas of study: trade in a global village, GDP as National Income and Aggregate Expenditure, savings and investment, unemployment, money and the monetary system, aggregate demand and supply in the short and long run, monetary and fiscal policy.

Learning outcomes
- apply economics principles, concepts, tools and theories to assess collective decision-making
- critically assess the effects of government policy and economic shocks on various macroeconomics variables
- analyse and illustrate economic information in various ways, including diagrams, tables and graphs
- examine an economy and its operation in an international environment.
Workload
Minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 144 hours per semester typically comprising a mixture of scheduled learning activities and independent study. Independent study may include associated readings, assessment and preparation for scheduled activities. You are expected to complete all pre-class activities prior to your scheduled class, and post-class activities should be completed after your scheduled class. Learning activities may include a combination of teacher directed, peer directed and online engagement activities.
