This unit focuses on building your understanding of the importance of working in partnership with children, family and communities within and beyond the school community. The unit provides insight for establishing pedagogical approaches to support young children’s learning, development and wellbeing. You will develop the skills and knowledge to build relationships and create partnerships across networks. You will have the opportunity to consider the ethics and protocols of engaging with diverse families and communities, as well as establishing sustainable partnerships with diverse stakeholders. You will investigate partnerships and actively contribute to building professional and pedagogical practice for sustaining partnerships with children, family and community.

Learning outcomes
- demonstrate equitable understanding, respect, and sensitivity for improving educational practice through partnerships with children, family and community
- assess the impact of contemporary real-life issues on children's learning development in the context of multicultural families and communities
- initiate, lead and implement ethical direction for spontaneous and planned communications to establish collaborative partnerships
- demonstrate the ability to design innovative learning in partnership with children, their families and communities from a range of linguistic, cultural, religious and socioeconomic backgrounds
- exhibit knowledge of teaching and learning strategies that are responsive to the learning strengths and needs of diverse family structures and backgrounds.
Workload
The minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 144 hours per teaching period comprising a mixture of scheduled learning activities and independent study. Usually, you can expect to engage with: • 18 hours of scheduled learning delivered synchronously on campus and/or online via regular directed learning activities; • 6 hours of scheduled learning delivered online via synchronous and/or asynchronous directed learning activities; and • the remaining hours to be allocated towards self-directed/independent study Scheduled learning activities may include a combination of teacher directed learning, peer directed learning and online engagement.
