This unit explores and develops a range of pedagogical practices across the creative arts methods utilising evidenced-based practice and reflective analysis of both teaching and philosophical ideas which underpin learning within The Arts curriculum: Dance, Drama, Music, Media Arts and Visual Arts. There is personal development alongside strategies to enhance group-based learning within this unit’s experiential focus, and a scholarly approach to creative arts in education.

Requisites
Learning outcomes
- take a critical position with respect to fundamental scholarly concepts in creative arts education and the specifics of dance, drama, music, media arts and visual arts
- actively demonstrate basic competencies in practical and creative components of one or more of the specific creative arts disciplines as they apply to teaching and learning
- interpret and understand the place of the creative arts content and pedagogy within the wider primary curriculum
- adopt a reflective approach and enact a range of inclusive planning, performing, sharing and teaching strategies
Workload
The minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 144 hours per teaching period comprising a mixture of scheduled learning activities and independent study. Usually, you can expect to engage with: • 24 hours* of scheduled learning delivered on campus via weekly/regular directed learning activities; and • the remaining hours to be allocated towards self-directed/independent study Scheduled learning activities may include a combination of teacher directed learning, peer directed learning and online engagement. *Subject to variation due to professional experience requirements
