Overview

This unit examines the relationship between psychological interventions and development across the lifespan. This unit focuses on exploring stages of development and interventions to improve wellbeing from infancy to older adulthood. The focus of this unit is on varied psychosocial concerns, developmental changes and psychological interventions spanning a broad spectrum of issues within the field of psychology. This is done within the context of the range of diversity present in the Australian context. Topics may include relationships, parenting, diversity learning, culture, social and emotional factors.

Learning outcomes

  1. demonstrate knowledge of the implications of development and psychosocial issues on wellbeing across the lifespan
  2. demonstrate the skills necessary to select and critically appraise psychological interventions for improved wellbeing across the lifespan and client diversity
  3. appreciate the value of informed group discussion in evaluating psychological research and interventions
  4. demonstrate well developed oral and written communication skills

Workload

The minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 144 hours per teaching period comprising a mixture of scheduled learning activities and independent study. Usually, you can expect to engage with: • 24 hours of scheduled learning delivered on campus via weekly/regular directed learning activities; and • the remaining hours to be allocated towards self-directed/independent study Scheduled learning activities may include a combination of teacher directed learning, peer directed learning and online engagement.
