Overview

This unit centres on the complexities of leading learning, specifically focusing on developing equity-oriented and responsive leadership processes and approaches for all students. Topics addressed include commitment to providing equity and excellence in education, ensuring that all students have access to high-quality education, using evidence responsibly, and being accountable for student outcomes. You will have the opportunity to synthesise and apply understandings by researching a leadership for learning issue of interest and propose an equitable response.

Learning outcomes

  1. understand the complexities of leading equitable and excellent learning
  2. identify ways that practices of leading might constrain or enhance learning within various education contexts
  3. apply growing conceptual and theoretical understandings of leadership to respond to contemporary challenges in education
  4. synthesise knowledge of leading learning and applying understanding to a problem in a specific educational context.

Workload

The minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 144 hours per teaching period comprising a mixture of scheduled learning activities and independent study. Usually, you can expect to engage with: • 12 hours of scheduled learning delivered on campus via weekly/regular directed learning activities, 12 hours of scheduled learning delivered online via a combination of synchronous and asynchronous directed learning activities and the remaining hours to be allocated towards self-directed/independent study OR • 24 hours of scheduled learning delivered online via a combination of synchronous and asynchronous directed learning activities and the remaining hours to be allocated towards self-directed/independent study^ ^ International students studying in Australia are not permitted to undertake this scheduled learning delivery mode. Scheduled learning activities may include a combination of teacher directed learning, peer directed learning and online engagement.
