2026 Handbook6 credit pointsLevel 5Faculty of Education
Last checked: 23 Aug 2026 UTCOverview
This unit explores issues around diversity and inclusion within children's everyday experiences with media and digital technologies. You will develop your skills in critically viewing, using, curating, analysing, evaluating and creating a range of media, as a means towards becoming critical media makers and media mentors to parents, colleagues, and children. You will explore a range of media, digital technologies, literature, games, fandom, film, popular culture, and counterstories to gain an understanding of media that engenders ethical and equitable spaces for learning. By developing your critical eye for media intended for children/families and classrooms, you will gain the ability to design praxis that challenge and combat institutional ableism, racism, sexism, xenophobia, discrimination based on sexual orientation/gender identity as well as bullying and bias. You will learn to use, select, and make media within the classroom and home settings that demonstrate inclusivity / social justice leadership.
