Overview

This unit explores the socio-political and institutional factors influencing the historical and contemporary positioning of Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples. Through a critical examination of theory, policy, and research, you will analyse your professional responsibilities as a teacher for Indigenous education and the impact of your own standpoint. You will investigate critical foundations of cultural responsivity and cultural safety to develop inclusive teaching strategies which acknowledge the diversity of Indigenous languages, cultures, and experiences. This unit will also provide you with opportunities to engage relational principles for effective engagement with Indigenous families and communities. You will design a project-based learning (PBL) program that integrates Indigenous perspectives across key learning areas in the Australian Curriculum and consider how Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) can enhance learning for all students.
