The unit provides a strong foundation in data analytics for a business management career. Most management decisions are made under uncertain conditions and therefore managers require analytical frameworks to leverage data as a strategic asset for creating competitive advantage. You will be exposed to real-world business issues and applications, and will learn to apply appropriate statistical methods for business analytics using computer softwares. These methods include descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive analytics. By presenting the content from a managerial perspective, you will be able to develop a managerial mindset towards making analytical-based business decisions.

Learning outcomes
- compare different sources, types, and structures of business data
- analyse business trends and patterns using descriptive analytics methods
- evaluate relationships in business data and develop predictive models using analytics techniques
- formulate and communicate data-driven recommendations to support informed business decisions.
Workload
Minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 144 hours per semester typically comprising a mixture of scheduled learning activities and independent study. Independent study may include associated readings, assessment and preparation for scheduled activities. You are expected to complete all pre-class activities prior to your scheduled class, and post-class activities should be completed after your scheduled class. Learning activities may include a combination of teacher directed, peer directed and online engagement activities.
