This unit introduces you to IT research. Specifically, it introduces major research methods that are used by IT researchers including experiments, surveys, case studies, and design science. It also addresses the collection and analysis of quantitative and qualitative data. You will learn how to effectively communicate research. Skills developed and knowledge acquired from this unit will prepare you to conduct your own research, as well as to be knowledgeable consumers of others' research.

- Explain the major philosophies and principles of research
- Apply the major research methods used in IT research
- Select and justify an appropriate research methodology for a research project
- Collect and analyse quantitative and qualitative research data
- Communicate research findings, orally and in writing, to a variety of audiences review and critique IT research literature and research design
- Plan, design and develop a research project
Workload
Minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 144 hours per semester typically comprising a mixture of scheduled online and face to face learning activities and independent study. Independent study may include associated reading and preparation for scheduled teaching activities.
