In this unit, you will develop an in-depth understanding of human pregnancy and birth as well as pathophysiological changes within the maternal-placental-fetal unit. You will also cultivate higher-order thinking skills through analysing and critiquing recent research developments in this field, refining your communication abilities to effectively convey complex scientific ideas.

Learning outcomes
- Describe the normal physiology of human pregnancy, fetal development and birth.
- Explain pathophysiological aspects related to gestation, fetal growth, and parturition.

- Analyse information provided to society regarding maternal and fetal health and effectively communicate inconsistencies.
Workload
6 hours of teacher directed study per week, including ~3 hours of lecture content and ~3 hours of tutorials 12 hours of self-directed study per week = 18 hours per week over an 8-week period for a total unit requirement of 144 hours.
