This unit introduces you to the practice and research of contemporary jewellery and object-based work and is taught through fine art and design methodologies. The emphasis in this unit is on engaging studio processes that combine making with critical thinking to explore a range of innovative approaches to jewellery and object-based work as contemporary cultural production and research. The process of making jewellery and objects is taught through the acquisition of a variety of skills and techniques that incorporate working with metal, wood and plastic in addition to a broad range of other materials and processes.

Learning outcomes
- Establish experimental studio processes that generate ongoing creative enquiry in jewellery, body related objects and object based sculpture;
- Demonstrate an understanding of different material properties and the conceptual implication of basic studio techniques;
- Articulate and engage critical dialogue and research surrounding methods, design and materials;
- Apply technical skills in metal, wood and plastic fabrication and other creative strategies as a form of expression appropriate to the concepts you are investigating;
- Demonstrate an understanding of the place contemporary jewellery and object-based practice in the fields of contemporary creative practice, nationally and internationally.
- Demonstrate abilities to safely and effectively use specialist material processes and equipment to generate outcomes.
