The Remedies unit will explore the remedial goals of equity, including analysis of some key statutes that they have influenced. It will also examine the legal rules and principles that both underpin these goals and make them a necessary part of the Law. The primary focus will be on trusts and fiduciary relationships, with additional coverage of contract and consumer law. Building on concepts from Trusts and Equity, the course will delve into current controversies, specific points of interest, and the laws of other common law jurisdictions.

Learning outcomes
- Demonstrate understanding of the key principles and goals that underpin the law of remedies as a distinct legal discipline and area of practice.
- Critically analyse a range of sources in order to investigate and make informed commentary on key knowledge areas of remedies law.
- Apply problem solving skills in order to make informed evaluations about complex areas of remedies law and use these as the basis for providing clear and accurate written advice for clients.
- Undertake relevant independent research to investigate, analyse and interpret information derived from a range of sources in order to make informed commentary on issues in remedies law.
- Communicate persuasively in both oral and written modes on a range of issues in regard to remedies law.
Workload
Minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 144 hours per semester typically comprising a mixture of scheduled learning activities and independent study. The unit requires on average three/four hours of scheduled activities per week. Scheduled activities may include a combination of teacher directed learning, peer directed learning and online engagement.
