Overview

This unit will examine significant and contemporary issues in employment and labour relations law that arise in response to changes in legislation. Key court decisions, international developments, and government-, business- and union-driven approaches will be analysed. Comparative aspects, where relevant, will illuminate the issues selected, and areas of law reform will also be discussed. The unit has a contemporary nature and current issues will be the focus. The content of the unit may vary each time it is offered.

Learning outcomes

1. Apply knowledge and understanding of recent developments in relation to the specific topics in contemporary issues in workplace law with creativity and initiative to new situations in professional practice and/or for further learning
2. Investigate, analyse and synthesise complex information, problems, concepts and theories in relation to current issues in workplace law and have a thorough understanding of the wider legal, economic, social, international and comparative dimensions associated with those topics
3. Conduct research in topics covered in Current Issues in Workplace Law based on knowledge of appropriate research principles and methods
4. Use cognitive, technical and creative skills to generate and evaluate at an abstract level complex ideas and concepts relevant to Current Issues in Workplace Law

Workload
