This unit will allow you to acquire knowledge and understanding of a specialist, and increasingly important, area of the law. The unit begins with a critical analysis of the different types of contracts and project delivery methods used by the Australian construction industry, ranging from traditional to alternative. Second, you will explore the problem areas that can lead to conflicts during the course of construction projects. Third, you will critique traditional and emerging forms of dispute avoidance, management, and resolution. Practices used in other jurisdictions will be analysed

Learning outcomes
- Apply knowledge and understanding of the different types of contracts and project delivery approaches used on construction projects and the pros and cons of each;
- Investigate, analyse and synthesise complex information, problems, concepts and theories in relation to issues that impact on construction projects such as variations, latent conditions, delays and defective works and the legal ramifications of each;
- Conduct research into different contractual models and project management styles that could improve the delivery of construction projects and reduce the adversarial culture of the construction industry;
- Use cognitive, technical and creative skills to generate and evaluate complex ideas and concepts relevant to the contracts and legislation governing the construction industry and impacting on the delivery of construction projects;
- Communicate complex ideas persuasively to a diverse audience.
