This unit explores the legal and policy issues raised by forced migration. It examines the causes of forced migration and the various international legal avenues providing protection for forced migrants, including international refugee law regime and international human rights law. The unit also covers human rights issues relating to internally displaced persons and stateless persons and contemporary questions such as those related to climate-induced displacement. The unit examines international norms and legal and policy frameworks of various receiving states and regions, with a focus on the interplay between international norms and contemporary politics.

- Demonstrate understanding of issues and developments in relation to international law and responses to forced migration with creativity and initiative for further learning and understanding

- Conduct research in international laws and policies applying to forced migration, based on knowledge of appropriate research principles and methods
- Communicate complex ideas effectively and persuasively in oral and written forms
