As organisations become increasingly virtual, complex, and dynamic, leadership emerges in new forms to meet new opportunities. This unit explores the contemporary practice of leadership and prepares participants to influence others ethically, in emergent environments, without reliance on formal authority, and no matter their hierarchical level. Building on foundational concepts and models of leadership practice and organisational behaviour, the unit provides you with opportunities to reflect on your personal experiences of leadership and further develop your leadership practice in contemporary contexts.

Learning outcomes
- develop self-awareness of one’s leadership strengths and areas for development in order to enhance one’s leadership practice
- demonstrate the ability to learn through critical reflection on specific experiences of leadership
- formulate a personal framework of leadership that employs reflective learning and ethical decision making.
Workload
Minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 144 hours per semester typically comprising a mixture of scheduled learning activities and independent study. Independent study may include associated readings, assessment and preparation for scheduled activities. You are expected to complete all pre-class activities prior to your scheduled class, and post-class activities should be completed after your scheduled class. Learning activities may include a combination of teacher directed, peer directed and online engagement activities.
