Identifying, measuring, interpreting and communicating critical revenue and cost data and information are key elements of financial and managerial accounting. Accounting for Decision-making / Financial and Management Accounting recognises the role of the manager in understanding the past and forming visions for the future; it provides a multidimensional view on accounting and financial reporting. Financial accounting coverage will involve the components of financial statements and their preparation and analysis. Management accounting will consider the application of cost accounting techniques to key strategic decisions in the organisation and their link to business strategy. Data analytics and data visualisation techniques will feature, as will the engagement with ethical and social implications of accounting practices and technologies.

- interpret and evaluate financial reports having regard to key accounting concepts and social and ethical considerations
- analyse financial information through financial ratio analysis and variance analysis and communicate key findings relating to business performance
- demonstrate management accounting concepts, techniques and issues
- apply data analytics and data visualisation to the interpretation and communication of financial information.
Workload
Minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 153 hours per semester typically comprising a mixture of scheduled learning activities and independent study. Independent study may include associated readings, assessment and preparation for scheduled activities. You are expected to complete all pre-class activities prior to your scheduled class, and post-class activities should be completed after your scheduled class. Learning activities may include a combination of teacher directed, peer directed and online engagement activities.
