Overview

The fundamental challenge in international business is ‘reducing the liability of foreignness’. The key managerial issues in International Business / International Business Study Tour include understanding the rules of business abroad, government and business relationships, modes of entry, international partnerships and competing in emerging markets. This is an experiential unit primarily involving an immersive experience in an international business context and market, with a study program at an international school overseas and direct engagement with professors, businesses and practitioners in the international market. This unit involves significant applied content including case studies and company visits.

Learning outcomes

  2. evaluate the implications of environmental forces such as geopolitics, regulations and culture for international business and trade
  3. evaluate a range of international market entry and positioning strategies
  4. critically examine the potential opportunities and threats of an international business market for a range of industry sectors
  5. work collaboratively with others and engage in reflective practices when developing appropriate business strategies.

Workload

Minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 153 hours per semester typically comprising a mixture of scheduled learning activities and independent study. Independent study may include associated readings, assessment and preparation for scheduled activities. You are expected to complete all pre-class activities prior to your scheduled class, and post-class activities should be completed after your scheduled class. Learning activities may include a combination of teacher directed, peer directed and online engagement activities.
